The Threat
Fraudulent travel documents include, but are not limited to, forged passports, passports
in which the photograph has been substituted, counterfeit visas, visas which have been
transferred from one passport to another, and visas which have been obtained under false
pretences. Even the most sophisticated documents can now be quickly compromised and today's
increasingly sophisticated and well-financed criminal networks are able to produce counterfeit
passports and other identity documents which are very difficult to distinguish from genuine documents.
Alliances between criminal gangs and terrorist organisations are today a matter of grave concern.
All personnel who screen passports and other identity documents, therefore, occupy a vital role in
securing public infrastructures. High quality training is the essential basis for expertise and efficiency
in document verification and in the identification of illegal travellers.
In recent years, many countries have introduced carrier liability acts, also known as carrier sanctions
into their law. Under these laws, airlines which transport an insufficiently documented passenger
(a passenger who does not have a proper passport or authorisation to enter a country) have to pay a large fine,
and also often have to assume responsibility for accommodation, medical, repatriation and other related costs.
A relatively small investment in training can increase the proficiency of airline staff in verifying passports,
and help them to identify inadmissible passengers, which can literally save an airline many thousands of dollars
a year in immigration fines.

The Passport Test
Introduction
The Passport Test is designed for students who have completed The Passport
Course as well as students with a background in document verification,
who are testing their understanding of ever-sophisticated forgery techniques.
The test combines a variety of styles such as multiple-choice, hot-spot,
drag-and-drop and true-or-false questions. Students are given feedback for
each incorrectly answered question.
